Cats are not fine outdoors, they live shorter lives and are exposed to a wide variety of dangers.
In the United States approximately 5.4 million cats die on the road each year, a small study of ten (10) cats in New Zealand showed that each cat exhibited at least one risky behavior during the study, and a larger study of one hundred (100) cats in Germany confirmed that outdoor access is a risk factor for FIV infection.
Unsupervised cats outside may also be preyed on by birds of prey, or coyotes, or loose dogs, or large lizards, or other cats, or snakes. They can also be maimed or mutilated, shot with an airgun or an arrow, or caught in a trap, or poisoned.
Not to mention the massive ecological damage they cause. There’s a reason many behaviorists, conservationists, veterinarians, and wildlife rehabilitators recommend against keeping cats outdoors. Some cats do enjoy the outdoors, though, and can be safely granted access to it via enclosures and harnesses.
Reblog the hell out of this. It doesn’t have enough notes, and OP is annoyed that someone dared to call her out with facts and sources.
Growing up, I lived on a farm inhabited by a herd of semi-feral farm cats. There were usually about 20 of them at any given time, but I think there were around 50 in total over those first 10ish years of my life.
Due to “nature” the average cat in that population lived to be about 5 years old, give or take a couple years. Some lived longer, but most did not.
It’s natural for a cat to die in a fight with a badger. It’s natural for a cat to freeze to death. My parents had to constantly remind us that these cats were wild animals, so we shouldn’t get too attached. It was a hard lesson.
So if your cat is a pet, aka a house cat, keep that cat in the house and help it live to be 20 years old. Because out in nature, they’re not gonna live nearly as long.
If you want to take your cat outside, consider harness training them and taking them for walks!
Now this is a great post about responsible pet ownership and I thoroughly support it.
video for this week is up
tried to upload last night but i went to bed so it finished this morning.
this is gonna take a while with my hands but i wanted to upload something
Every time I see people like “cats are evil and will never love you” I’m like bro cats are adorable losers, they rub against you and head butt into your hand when you pet them and they make a dumb vibrating noise when they’re happy and chase after moving lights and shoelaces and tuck their feet under their bodies to become a fucking cat loaf cats are great ok.
Trainability in cats is a funny thing.
My cats understand and will obey a number of verbal commands, one of which is “go away”. I don’t use it often, but if they’re bugging me and I’m trying to work or doing something that could be dangerous for cats, I can tell them to go away, and off they go - they’ll only keep pestering me if there’s a serious problem they need me to look at.
That said, their idea of a serious problem that requires my attention is somewhat eccentric. Previous instances have included:
These are all very important things that required your attention. They’re doing a good job.
let’s bring back the term “cats” when referring to a group of people (i.e. “see you cats later”)
pros:
cons:
it makes sense since, from what i’m aware, everybody wants to be a cat, because, apparently, a cat’s the only cat who knows where it’s at
CATS HAVE LIMITED OBJECT PERMANENCE AND DON’T ALWAYS UNDERSTAND THAT TWO DIFFERENT DOORS CAN LEAD TO THE SAME ROOM
YUP, THAT’S WHY. CATS ARE BIG DUMMIES AND OFTEN SEE NO REASON WHY TWO DIFFERENT DOORS SHOULD LEAD TO THE SAME PLACE, SO THEY FIGURE THEY’LL CHECK IF IT’S ALSO RAINING IN THE OTHER OUTSIDE BEHIND THE OTHER DOOR.
WHEN THE PROPRIETOR OF THIS BLOG WAS A CHILD, THE KITCHEN LED INTO THE DINING ROOM, WHICH LED INTO THE LIVING ROOM, WHICH LEAD INTO THE FRONT HALLWAY, WHICH LED BACK INTO THE KITCHEN, SO WHEN THE CATS WERE HUNGRY, THEY WOULD CHECK THEIR BOWLS, SEE THAT THEY WERE EMPTY, AND WALK ALL THE WAY AROUND THE HOUSE TO SEE IF THE OTHER BOWLS IN THE OTHER KITCHEN WERE ALSO EMPTY.
why is everyone screaming
FOR AN ANSWER TO YOUR QUESTION, I ADVISE YOU TO LOOK AT THE TITLE OF THIS BLOG.

…my god.
today i learned that mountain lions meow and it sounds RIDICULOUS
Did you know that cougars/mountain lions are not considered “big cats” because they cannot roar? They communicate more like house cats than lions or tigers!
Cats are so great, how are there people that hate them…or call them ugly…specifically Hairless Cats this post was made for them love ‘em I want 12 like just imagine being born bald and staying Bald forever
